Troubleshoot D-Link Connection Options

You router can be setup in bridge mode or directly via PPPoE. The following instructions might vary for Planet routers but the settings and steps remain the same.

Please ensure that you have power, lights on your modem router and bandwidth before checking these settings.

The one of following Settings are to setup/check your D-Link Router (or PLanet Modem Router).

  • Using you Router to Connect
  1. Under Advanced Setup -> WAN: remove/disable the existing interfaces
  2. Add a PPPoE interface where:
  3. First page: PORT = 0, VPI = 8, VCI = 35, Service Category = UBR Without PCR
  4. Second page: Connection Type = PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE), Encapsulation Mode = LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  5. Third page: Enter PPP Username & Password, Leave on Obtain default gateway automatically, Enable Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports (this option is for PPPoE Relaying/Passthrough), Leave MTU = 1492
  6. Fourth page: Leave NAT, Firewall & WAN Service options Enabled. You can enter any descriptive name for the Service Name, like PPPoE_NumAfrica
  7. Save and reboot
  • If you simply want to dial connections from PC's then just add a Bridge
  1. Under Advanced Setup -> WAN: remove/disable the existing interfaces.
    • Add a Bridge interface where:
  2. First page: PORT = 0, VPI = 8, VCI = 35, Service Category = UBR Without PCR
  3. Second page: Connection Type = Bridging, Encapsulation Mode = LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
  4. Third page: Leave Bridge Service enabled and enter any descriptive name for the Service Name, like Bridge NumADSL
  5. Save and reboot

The D-link units have Diagnostics Page to test the line and Connection.

Should the connection fail:

  1. re-check the settings and Spell out the Username and Password carefully for accuracy.
  2. Unplug and reset the unit
    • Enter the details above again
  3. Should it still not work.Leave unit unplugged for 30 Minutes
  4. Enter the details as above
  5. Should it still not work
  6. Request the port be re-created by NumAfrica
  7. Should it still not work. The router is dead (No lights) or the line is down (Results from Diagnotics screen)
